Brewin Dolphin RS Elite UK Nationals Preview

07 June 2018

With the 2018 season now well under way the next major event for the RS Elite fleet is the Brewin Dolphin RS Elite UK National Championship which takes place at the Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club from June 28th to July 1st. The UK Nationals is the second event of the RS Elite Grand Slam series, the others being the Southern Area Championship and Lendy Cowes Week. This will be a closely-contested event. Winners in recent years include Russell Peters, Mike McIntyre and Jono Brown who won the event five times before retiring from Elite sailing after the 2015 season. RNIYC is a popular venue and this will be the third time that the club has hosted the event. It has established a firm reputation for close competitive racing and Irish hospitality. A total of ten races are planned over the four days of the regatta with three races each on each of the first three days with provision for a further race on the fourth day if the series is undecided at that point. There is a full social programme, including a party on the SS Nomadic and a championship dinner. RS elite sailors are well known arriving fresh on the racecourse each morning after partying till after midnight the night before. Full information on entry including notice of race can be found at www.rniyc.org/events/rs-elite-uk-national-championships-2018. Special arrangements have been made with the ferry companies to assist participants travelling with their boats from the UK mainland. Latest information on this is available from RNIYC.
