RS Elite Committee Changing of the Guard

06 January 2025

Colin Smith has spent the last five years cajoling & patiently nurturing the HISC fleet into the strong position it is now. Not only was he racing ( sometimes middle sometimes steering) & often winning, but he was advising the race officers & encouraging those new to the class. He was also instrumental in planning the socials for the sailors, their families & friends of the fleet. He will be passing over the reins so, as a thank you from the HISC fleet, Colin is off to 'The Pig' for a gastronomic treat!

Jo Hewitson has stepped down as Class Chairman handing over the role to Gerry Reid. Jo was instrumental in launching a new class website. As well as competing in most events, she was the 'power house' behind the scenes too. In her AGM report she explained that although the class had a drop in membership from Northern Ireland, we have gained members from Southern Ireland & Norway. Euro payments are now possible through the website which should help encourage membership from the eurozone. The fledgling fleet in Dunsmore East in Waterford Harbour, has increased to 6 boats with plans for more. They will be hosting the Irish Nationals in September 2025.  The highlight of Jo's Elite year was the trip to Tonsberg Seilforening in Norway. Her enthusiasm & energy is infectious which has helped grow the class enormously & if we can find some boats for the Norweigans then they will be over for the UK Nationals in Cowes.

Gerry, who lives in N.I. will be a great embassador for the class & we look forward to seeing more boats racing across the water in 2025 & beyond.

The class is getting  Jo a tree for her new garden as a thank you.
